For example, the viscosity of Venezuela's Orinoco extra-heavy crude oil lies in the range 1000–5000 cP (1–5 Pa·s), while Canadian extra-heavy crude has a viscosity in the range 5000–10,000 cP (5–10 Pa·s), about the same as molasses, and higher (up to 100,000 cP or 100 Pa·s for the most viscous commercially exploitable deposits). API CK-4 oils are designed to provide enhanced protection against oil oxidation, viscosity loss due to shear, and oil aeration as well as protection against catalyst poisoning, particulate filter blocking, engine wear, piston deposits, degradation of low- and high-temperature properties, and soot-related viscosity increase. The different types of crude oil need to be classified for further treatment. Both a crude oil's viscosity and its API (American Petroleum Institute) degree are important parameters for classification. Crude oil's viscosity can vary from a low-viscosity liquid to up to tar-like, nearly solid form. Classification according to the API degree: 4 factors of crude oil classification. Viscosity defines the ability of oils to flow. Higher viscosity makes oil more difficult to flow. As such, it takes much energy to pump it from the ground. Volatility defines the speed of oil evaporation. Higher volatility requires additional measures to monitor the environment during the extraction

In lesson two, we will talk about the properties and classifications of crude oil. Because of the extreme complexity of crude oil, it is impossible to get the molecular analysis, or the molecular composition.

The earliest attempts to classify motor oils were made when automobiles first appeared. Even at this early stage, viscosity was recognized as one of the most  Engine oil viscosity refers to how easily oil pours at a specified temperature. of Automotive Engineers developed a scale for both engine (motor oil grades) and transmission oils. Viscosity is notated using the common classification “XW-XX”. 2 Dec 2009 Brent crude and WTI (West Texas Intermediate) are. references to “ Geographical Locations” in order to descriptively classify crude oils. (2) Kinematic Viscosity : An important property that indicates liquidity. Used to  19 Sep 2019 Temperature-viscosity characteristics of lubricating oils and/or greases is one of the important Classification of Viscosity Indexes of Oils. Abstract: Diesel engine lubricants are composed of base oil, viscosity modifier The ATIEL Group I to V classifications are identical to those of API (however,

13 Aug 2014 Crude oil Composition and Properties Canadian Crude Oil Production (million b/d) Table 1 – Grade Classification per 46 CFR 30.10. Heavy oil typically has a viscosity of 100 centipoise or greater. Extra heavy oil is generally referred to as heavy oil with a viscosity in excess of 10000 centipoise. Thus, the higher values of VI represent lower degrees of oil viscosity change with temperature. Lubricating oils are frequently classified by their kinematic viscosity. Other manufacturers recommend the use of only one motor oil viscosity grade. The first number in the oil classification refers to a cold weather viscosity. 14. Crude oil. • Crude oil is a mixture of thousands of different molecules Selects viscosity “cut” and controls volatility (evaporation) API base oil classification

With high viscosity too much power is required to shear the oil film, and the flow of oil through the engine is retarded. Viscosity tends to decrease as temperature

Crude oil's viscosity can vary from a low-viscosity liquid to up to tar-like, nearly solid form. Classification according to the API degree: Crude oil with low content of sulfur means 'sweet' and the presence of high content sulfur is known as 'sour'. One of the largest and major Classifications of Crude oil is Brent Blend, which is found in the North Sea. With an API gravity of 38.3 degrees and 0.37% of sulfur, this blend of crude oil comes from 15 various oil fields in the North Sea.
